Reception for Cultural Enrichment Grant Winners

Set for January 22, 2013, at The Cultural Center of Cape Cod

Historical Groups in Five Towns Are Recipients of CCADA Funds to

Preserve, Display Artifacts

The Cape Cod Antique Dealers Association (CCADA), a nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing the public’s knowledge and appreciation of antiques, will be honoring five organizations on the Cape selected to be the recipients of CCADA’s Cultural Enrichment Fund grants at a reception on January 22, 2013, at 11:00am, at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod in South Yarmouth, MA. The public is invited to attend the reception and hear firsthand about the projects receiving the awards.

Through the Cultural Enrichment Fund, CCADA seeks to promote a better understanding of the Cape’s history and heritage by providing support to nonprofit organizations for special projects that help educate the public and preserve the Cape’s history for future generations. This year, the grants are being provided to the following five organizations:

The Harwich Historical Society to clean and restore a painting in the Society’s collection by Charles D. Cahoon, “Ice Boating on Long Pond.”

The Osterville Historical Museum for the purchase of a digital frame to enable display of recently digitized portions of the Museum’s holdings, including a post card collection.

The Truro Historical Society for the purchase of Lucite display cases to provide for the secure display of Native American artifacts.

The Wellfleet Historical Society to expand its educational project providing “Treasure Chests” of historical artifacts as teaching tools for use in the schools as well as at the museum.

The Historical Society of Old Yarmouth to preserve a map of the town dating from 1795, the earliest known map drawn of Yarmouth.

This year’s awards were selected from among 14 requests from museums, historical societies, libraries, and other cultural organizations across the Cape. According to Priscilla Hutchinson, Program Chair for the Cultural Enrichment Fund at CCADA, “Making the selection was a challenging task for the Committee – there were so many important efforts seeking support. The five that were chosen for awards this year stood out for their creativity and/or historical significance, but all the requests were deserving efforts, and we would have liked to support more of them if the funds had been unlimited. We are hopeful that in the coming year our fund-raising efforts will allow us to support an even larger number of projects.” The Cultural Enrichment Fund is designed to support qualifying organizations which seek to do one of the following:

Seed a new project of historical significance

Assist in the completion of an on-going project

Acquire an artifact, collection, or other object appropriate to the applying organization

Provide for the conservation of a previously owned or recently acquired object

Support an educational effort

The CCADA is a community of antique dealers dedicated to bringing to the public an awareness of and appreciation for antiques and the history that can be learned from them. CCADA sponsors two premier antique shows on Cape Cod each year. Proceeds from the shows help

CCADA fund this grant program as well as fund a long-standing scholarship program for students who are continuing their education with a major in the fine or decorative arts, history, or related field.

If you would like additional information about the CCADA’s Cultural Enrichment Fund please contact Priscilla Hutchinson at 508-694-6288 or visit CCADA’s website at www.ccada.com.
